About Us
Our Story
The Early Music Society of Queensland Inc (EMSQ) brings together people with an interest in the music, instruments and dance of the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical periods. Our aim is to support and promote early music in Queensland.

The society was founded in 1974 by a group of enthusiastic music lovers and its aims, in essence, remain the same today as they were fifty years ago. Technology has changed the way we do many things, but the core mission of support and promotion of early music in all its forms remains the same.
Members play recorders, viols and other stringed instruments, and many types of renaissance reed instruments such as crumhorns and rackett, baroque flute, cornetto, sackbutt and more. Members include singers who do not play any instrument, as well as people who neither play an instrument nor sing but just have an interest in early music. We hold workshops, concerts and have an informative newsletter, as well as a collection of instruments for hire to members and a music library which members can access.

We are happy to assist other early music organisations and groups in promoting their events. Please contact us if you would like your event included on this website and/or in our newsletter.

EMSQ is incorporated as a non-profit society in the state of Queensland and is a registered charity with the ACNC. We are covered for $20 million in Public Liability Insurance.
We gratefully receive tax-deductible donations over $2 from within Australia. Please use the Donations button if you wish to donate.
